Michael Young, editor of Carnegie's Diwan blog, joined France 24’s The Debate to discuss the recent developments in Lebanon. Young said that Saad Hariri's suspension of his resignation was due to the intervention of France and Egypt. Young suggested there is no doubt that the Saudis compelled Hariri to resign; although the reason he stayed there is still unclear. Young explained that Hezbollah has an interest in keeping a government in place in Lebanon in order for the elections to take place next year. With the new electoral law, Hariri is expected to lose seats in parliament.
