Collin Anderson is a co-author, with Karim Sadjadpour, of a new Carnegie report that was released yesterday, January 4, on cyber operations involving Iran. The report argues that even as the Islamic Republic has been the target of such operations by the United States and its allies, it has made cyber operations a “core tool of Iranian statecraft.” Tehran has organized disruptive attacks against opponents at home and abroad, including Iranian civil society organizations, as well as governmental and commercial institutions in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. The report also focuses on how the United States should respond to Iranian cyber operations, offering a series of recommendations. It is to discuss the report that Diwan met with Anderson on his visit to Beirut in mid-December to attend the annual conference of the Carnegie Middle East Center.
