El-Erian Fellow Dalia Ghanem-Yazbeck, an Algerian national, has written extensively about Algerian politics, jihadism, and the role of women in Islamic extremist groups. In this Diwan interview, she sets up the forthcoming Algerian parliamentary elections on May 4.

Among Ghanem-Yazbeck’s previous contributions to Diwan have been Apocalypse, Not, on the possibility of an implosion in a post-Bouteflika Algeria, and Sisters in Arms, on the expanding role of female jihadists. She also sat for a Diwan interview in Arabic, on the future of the Islamic State after its military defeats, which corresponded with the attack against policemen in Paris on April 20.
