Capacity Building

Citizenship Education

Carnegie’s citizenship education program hosts regional meetings and conferences intended to convene top education experts and teachers to discuss the state of citizenship education in the post-Arab Spring and how it can be included in the national curricula of Arab countries. The program combined regular meetings with commissioned original research from Egypt, Tunisia, Kuwait, and Lebanon. It also helped create two distinct academic and scholarly networks in Cairo and Tunis, comprised of scholars Carnegie had brought together. The main focus of these networks is to work with their respective ministries of education on including citizenship education in their respective syllabi.

The Carnegie Middle East Center works with regional partners to build the capacity of emerging scholars and institutions in the Middle East and North Africa.
